Big Week Out (BWO) is a vibrant, community service event for high school students and young adults. It brings together passionate young people with local churches to serve the community in practical, meaningful ways. All inspired by God’s love.
Big Week out is founded on the belief that:
We have a Big God who demonstrates an awesome capacity to love and serve. We experience this love and service best through Jesus Christ.
Our world is full of Big Opportunities to demonstrate God’s love and service.
As we demonstrate God’s love and service, radical changes come to the world we live in.
“We see generations of young people inspired by the love of Jesus Christ, impacting the world through generous acts of service in their local community.”
Grow young people and leaders;
Share God’s love with everyone involved
Serve our community and show God's love through action
Values influence what we believe to be important and impact how we work together. Big Week Out’s Values are:
We live with Jesus at the center - He’s our heartbeat.
We pour love into our relationships, the same love Jesus poured into us.
We celebrate our unity in Christ, weaving different churches together into one big hearted community.
We believe growth happens when we roll up our sleeves and serve side by side.
We know every person matters - we build each other up and lift each other higher.
We believe our vision of regional, localised, across church traditions, service based, Jesus focussed, grass roots, young people mobilised, community engagement is a unique contribution BWO has to make. If churches run a BWO, they need to sign on to this vision.
Our values describe what matters to us and are core to shaping our vision and practice. If churches run a BWO, they need to sign on to these values.
As young people serve through the "Big Week Out", our local churches gain positive regard amongst many communities. It is important for the sake of all churches we protect this regard by ensuring BWO sites deliver safe, honourable, life giving projects. Working under Scripture Union Australia helps BWO deliver safe, positive projects.
To uphold the BWO value of local churches working together, a key requirement for Big Week Out projects is to establish a core team of representing at least 3 different sponsoring churches from at least 2 different denominations.
Sponsoring churches undertake to:
work within SUA requirements to deliver safe BWO projects;
support the event as an expression of their own church life;
provide the BWO leadership and resource support;
